Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is a three-year full time course approved by Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India. AME in Mechanical Stream get trained in following:
a) Maintenance related to Air-frame: Performing scheduled/ Non-scheduled maintenance, making emergency repairs, maintenance related to air frame viz. mechanical and Aircraft hydraulic systems, Air Conditioning System, Aircraft Pressurization System, Aircraft Landing Gear System, Aircraft structure, Aircraft Pneumatic System etc.
b) Maintenance related to Aircraft Engine, Aircraft Fuel System, Aircraft Oil System, Engine Starting & Ignition System, Fire Protection System etc
Duration: 3 Years
10+2 pass from recognized board with P C M (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics is compulsory) or Diploma in
Mechanical / Electrical /Electronics or B.Sc. pass from recognized University with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics is compulsory)
• To impart training in the field of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering for obtaining Basic license in categories: Heavy Aeroplanes (HA),Jet Engines(JE),Light Aircraft(LA),Piston Engine(PE),Electrical System(ES),Instrument System(IS),Radio Navigation System(RN) as per Civil Aviation Requirement 147 (Basic) of Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India.
• To develop competent Aircraft Maintenance Engineers to meet the increasing demand of MRO’s, Civil and Private Airlines.
• To develop a strong technology base coupled with individual’s personality traits and character as a contribution towards human resource of the nation.
During the training, lessons are imparted for the service and maintenance of aircraft so as to ensure flight safety. A two-year full-time program of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is being offered by Wingsss College of Aviation Technology, Pune. The Institute is duly approved by the DGCA, Government of India and has one of the best Infrastructure facility in India , some of which includes Practical Hands-on Training on LEARJET 25D, FOKKER F 27, HUL 26 PUSHPAK & BELL 47 HELICOPTER, Dedicated Training Laboratories of Electrical Labs, Electronic Labs, Aircraft Instrument Labs, and Radio Navigation as well as Aircraft Battery Shops and Aircraft Composite Structure Shop. Different Types OF Engines Viz. MIG 21 A/C – (R-11F2S-300 ENGINE) , TURBOJET ENGINE (AVON MK-207) (RR) (DISMENTEL), TURBOSHAFT ENGINE (TV2-117A), TURBOJET ENGINE (IL-SO-3-W), Continental C90-8F & Helicopter Engine. The Only Institute in western India, having Excellent Infrastructure Including Aircraft Hanger, Workshop, and Well-Stocked Library to supports teaching and learning. Aircraft Engineer is also called as Aircraft maintenance engineer and are usually referred as Licensed Aircraft Engineer. Aircraft Engineering involves in Maintenance and servicing of all parts of an Aircraft. Aircraft Maintenance Engineer is responsible to issue the Certificate of Flight Release/Maintenance in respect of aircraft, engine, instruments, electrical, radio system which certifies that the aircraft is airworthy and fit for flying, Aircraft Maintenance Engineer plays a major role among the maintenance personnel to keep the Aircraft ‘Airworthy’ all the time. No civil aircraft engaged in flying for hire and reward can be operated without being certified as Airworthy by the Aircraft. Just as pilots are trained and then licensed to fly, aircraft maintenance engineers are trained and licensed to maintain the aircraft to industry standard.
The maintenance of modern sophisticated aircrafts calls for high degree of technical knowledge competence and proficiency on the part of concerned personnel. Tremendous responsibility lies upon the Aircraft Engineers who are certifying the modern sophisticated Aircrafts manned by experienced crew trained at a high cost and great care carrying the precious load of ever-increasing number of passengers.
In the beginning, the training focus is on basic information about aircraft rules and regulations which then cover general engineering and maintenance. The subjects taught include aerodynamics or theory of flight, metallurgy, electronics, handling sophisticated equipment and practical work in machine rooms and on aircraft engines. In the later semesters, the study focuses on specific areas like light aircraft, heavy aircraft, piston engines, jet engines or helicopters.
Apart from this, trainees are required to undergo structural aircraft type courses in mechanical or avionics stream. After successful completion of the training program, the trainees will get a basic aircraft maintenance training certificate. This is followed by an examination conducted by the DGCA.
Those who qualify the examination will be awarded a license. The defined duration of the program is sufficient for a candidate to appear for the aircraft maintenance licensing examinations. After getting the DGCA- AME license, one is required to obtain regulatory license or approval on a type of aircraft. If it is an Airbus or Boeing, one has to obtain an individual license to service that particular type of aircraft. Aircraft maintenance engineers are authorized to inspect the aircraft and certify its fitness.
Those who successfully complete the training and obtain DGCA’s license are eligible to get jobs in airports and aircraft manufacturing or maintenance firms with an attractive salary. As more and more airlines start operations in the private sector, there will be an increase in demand for aircraft maintenance engineers and mechanics.
